Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Janet Jones (2017/18)

"What I really enjoyed about the Master of Philosophy program was the academic freedom it allowed me. In almost all of my classes, I was able to select and work on a research topic of my choice. This gave me the ability to build my research skills and work on the things I thought were most interesting. The Philosophy department is small enough so that you can get to know everyone in a meaningful way and yet, diverse enough so that there is almost certainly someone who is familiar with or working on a topic you're interested in. The Philosophy department is truly dedicated to teaching. The professors aren't just focused on their own work. They make the time to sit down and talk to you, get to know you and what you're interested in, and help you get there. If you want to get into philosophy, this department is perfect."

Alex Fiorello (2017/18)

"The Master of Philosophy program at Laurier gave me the skills I need to succeed. I became a much better writer, thinker and communicator. I enjoyed the small class sizes and the courses offered. It provided the opportunity to get know the professors and peers in an intimate manner. The faculty are wonderful, the campus is well located and the overall experience of the program is very positive. Anyone with a passion for philosophy and discussion will find a home at Laurier."

Pamela Dedman (2016/17)

“My experience with Laurier's MA program was excellent. The theme of the program, self and human agency, offers a wide range of topics to choose from when considering what to write for the major research paper. The courses offered are interesting and relevant to the overall theme of the program and the professors specialize in a wide range of topics and are helpful and attentive to each students needs."

Adrian Rosu (2014/15)

“Laurier's MA in Philosophy helped prepare me for law school and for the practice of law. In the MA program I was exposed to a breadth of epistemological, moral and political issues that are also the concern of lawyers, judges and legal academics. My study of the philosophical background to these issues through analytical reasoning and writing helped train me to think and write like a lawyer.”

Ben Winokur (2013/14)

"My experiences in Laurier’s MA program in philosophy were immeasurably helpful in preparing me for my doctoral studies. Everything from the tight thematic focus of the course work to the close supervision I received during my thesis writing helped refine my philosophical and professional skills. I recommend the program very highly.”

Andria Bianchi (2011/12)

“Wilfrid Laurier University’s Master of Arts (MA) in Philosophy was an intellectually stimulating program that gave me countless opportunities to develop as a philosopher and scholar. The professors offered constructive feedback on my work, as well as personalized guidance about career opportunities and doctoral programs. Its thematic focus on selfhood and human agency allowed me to explore philosophical questions from a distinct perspective, providing me with a strong foundation to pursue a doctoral degree in Philosophy and build on the skills that I developed at Laurier.”

Aaron Roberts (2011/12)

"The MA philosophy program at Laurier was a year well spent. Through it I was able to build upon, refine my understanding of, and delve deeper into the philosophical material covered during my undergrad. I came away a deeper thinker, better writer, and a more professional and sophisticated philosopher."

Sierra Yanush (2010/11)

“Laurier’s MA in Philosophy was an invaluable stepping block in my career path towards becoming a lawyer. It helped fine-tune my critical thinking, ability to craft arguments, and presentation skills. I had the opportunity to engage in discourse in a respectful environment; civility coupled with passion and intellectual rigour have become my guideposts.”

Nicole Ramsoomair (2009/10)

“When I entered Laurier’s graduate program, I knew little to nothing about grad school or what it took to succeed. By the time I left however, the quality of courses and support from the department came together to form a solid foundation to build my academic career. The professors and fellow students helped to establish a community of support that continues to provide encouragement years after completion. The level of personalization and care that went into the student’s development is unrivalled as faculty doors were always open. I would highly recommend the program.”
