Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University invites the whole community to a fun-filled celebration June 18 as varsity soccer star Emily Brown carries the Pan Am/Parapan Torch onto the Waterloo campus.

Adults and children of all ages are invited to enjoy music, giant inflatable sports games and a free barbecue and drinks from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Brown is scheduled to arrive with the torch at approximately 5:15 p.m. She will carry it from Mid-Campus Drive to Alumni Field, next to the Laurier Athletic Complex, where the celebration will take place.

“This is a fantastic way for Laurier and the entire community to celebrate the upcoming Pan Am/Parapan Games and to experience the torch relay right here in Waterloo Region,” said Joel Peters, assistant vice-president: external relations. “We’re really looking forward to hosting the community on Laurier’s Waterloo campus — it’s going to be great fun for kids and adults alike.”

The giant inflatable sports games will be set up on Laurier’s Alumni Field starting at 4:30 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be available while supplies last. There is plenty of parking available on the campus and on nearby streets.
