At Laurier, we think university education should be more than just lectures, in-class tests and final exams — there’s much more to life as a Golden Hawk. Our approach to education is about balance, engagement and challenging yourself.
During your time at Laurier, we make sure you gain both the theoretical knowledge and the practical experience to make a difference. Several courses at Laurier offer you the unique experience of getting involved in a community project or placement. Many of our academic programs let you dive deeper into the relevance of your education through hands-on research opportunities and specialized workshops.
We also offer an array of co-curricular opportunities — or "outside the classroom" opportunities such as volunteer work, campus clubs, leadership programs, student exchanges and co-op work placements — so you can apply your in-class learning to life outside of the lecture hall.
All the good work you do outside of class brings its own rewards — you get to build a stronger community and improve yourself, too — but there’s another bonus: employers love it. When you graduate from Laurier, you’ll leave with something called a Co-Curricular Record, a record of all the extracurriculars you participated in at university.
Our students value helping others: Laurier has the highest proportion of students and alumni with volunteer experience compared to other universities worldwide, according to LinkedIn.
