Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.


LEAP summer programs are open to campers in grades 1 to 9 who may or may not have been identified as gifted but have achieved a level three or higher overall in their previous school year. For summer camp, register based on the grade your child will be entering the following September. Others may be admitted pending approval of the LEAP camp coordinator.

Camp Hours and Location

All camps are held in the Bricker Academic Building, home to the Faculty of Education on the Laurier Waterloo campus.

Sensational Saturdays

  • Camp begins at 9 a.m.
  • Drop off is from 8:45 to 9 a.m.
  • Pick up is at noon.

Half Day Summer Camps

  • Morning camp: Camp begins at 8:30 a.m., drop off starts at 8:15 a.m., and pick up is at noon.
  • Afternoon camp: Camp begins at 1 p.m., drop off starts at 12:45 p.m., and pick up is at 4:30 p.m.

A supervised lunch period is arranged for campers who are registered for morning and afternoon half day camps in the same week. We will ensure your child is signed in to their afternoon camp.

Full Day Summer Camps

  • Camp begins at 8:30 a.m.
  • Drop off starts at 8:15 a.m.
  • Pick up is at 4:30 p.m.
  • There is a supervised one hour lunch period.

PD Day Programming

  • Camp begins at 9 a.m.
  • Drop off is from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Pick up is from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • There is a supervised one hour lunch period.

Parental Expectations

Hours of Operation

We ask that all parents/guardians please respect the hours of operation for our camp. If your child will be absent, please call or email to let us know at your earliest convenience. You will be allowed a 10 minute grace period after which you will be charged $5 for every ten minutes that you are late. If not picked up by the end of the grace period, your camper will be taken to the LEAP office (BA311) to await your arrival.

  • Sensational Saturdays: For safety reasons, do not drop off campers before 8:45 a.m. and ensure that campers are picked up at noon.
  • Summer camps: For safety reasons, do not drop off campers before 8:15 a.m. for morning camps or 12:45 p.m. for afternoon camps, and ensure that campers are picked up by noon for morning camps and 4:30 p.m. for afternoon and full day camps. 
  • PD Day Programming: For safety reasons, do not drop off campers before 8:30 a.m. and ensure that campers are picked up between 4-4:30 p.m. 

Pre-Arranged Late Pick-Up (Summer camp only)

Arrangements can be made in advance for supervision of campers after camp from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. for an additional fee of $40 per week or $8 per day. Please indicate your request for late pick up on the registration form. Refunds will not be given for missed or cancelled days.

Note: There is no after camp care offered for Sensational Saturdays and PD Day Programming.

Pick-Up Procedure

Only the person(s) listed on the registration form are allowed to pick up that child. In the future, let us know of any changes to this information. Please note that all persons picking up a camper, including parents, will be asked for photo ID every day before a camper is released into their care.


We will process refunds up to seven days before the start of camp. New this year, all cancellations will incur a 5% processing fee. Parents will be notified as soon as possible after registration closes if any camps for which you have registered must be cancelled due to insufficient registration. All efforts will be made to place your child in a suitable camp. If not possible, a full refund will be given in such circumstance (with no processing fee).


LEAP strives to create a nut-free environment, but cannot guarantee it. It is asked that all food sent to camp is nut free. Please make sure to indicate in the medical section of the LEAP Registration Form whether your child has an anaphylactic allergy to nuts or any other food.

Camp Shirt

Each camper will receive a LEAP t-shirt on the first day of camp. This shirt must be worn every day of camp to identify their involvement on a busy university campus. Extra shirts can be purchased at a cost of $10 per shirt.

Camper Expectations

Laurier's LEAP has a non-tolerance policy for misconduct which puts any camper, camp personnel or university property at risk. LEAP personnel will deem what is appropriate behaviour and computer use and their decisions will be final. Violations may lead to parental contact and possibly removal from camp without monetary reimbursement. LEAP may terminate a camper’s participation if his/her wilful misconduct or actions interfere with the operation of the program. Laurier has the right to hold campers or parents/guardians financially responsible for any damages or loss of property incurred at their program site due to a camper’s wilful misconduct or irresponsible actions. Safety and Liability

Wilfrid Laurier University, its employees, LEAP, agents and volunteers shall not be held responsible for any damage, loss or claim of injury resulting from events beyond its control, including acts of God, strikes or sickness. Wilfrid Laurier University cannot be held responsible for events resulting from inappropriate or irresponsible camper behaviour.
