Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

General Camp Information

Is the LEAP Camp right for my child?

Our LEAP program is designed for gifted and highly able (working at or above grade level) children and youth in or entering grades 1-9. LEAP offers a wide range of camp themes such as coding, robotics, art and math, computer programming, space, STEM, drama and more!

What is the camp day schedule look like?

We run based on a traditional school day schedule; one 15 minute break in the morning, a one hour break for lunch and one 15 minute break in the afternoon.

What should I send with my child?

We recommend that all campers bring a reusable water bottle, wear weather appropriate clothing, and have any prescriptions or medications (in original packaging) your child requires for the day.

  • Full day campers – hats, sunscreen, a nut-free lunch and snacks for break times.
  • Half day and Sensational Saturday campers – nut-free snack for break time.

What should I not send with my child?

Nut products, valuable belongings and technology. LEAP leaders or program staff do not take responsibility for personal items and technology (ie. cell phones) that a camper may bring with them to camp.

Is lunch provided for the camp?

Lunch and snacks are not provided for the duration of our Summer Camps or Sensational Saturdays program.

For our full day Summer Camp, we offer an option to purchase into a pizza lunch on the Friday of camp. The pizza lunch is offered at $2/slice, cheese or peperoni. Gluten and dairy-free options available. Pizza orders must be returned to camp leaders by Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

What weeks does camp run?

Our Sensational Saturdays camp runs for six Saturday mornings from the end of January through the beginning of March. Registration typically opens in November and closes in early January.

Our LEAP Summer Day Camp runs for two weeks in July. We offer a variety of half-day and full-day camps. Each week runs independent of the other. Campers can attend just one week or both. Registration typically opens in March and closes at the end of May.

Who are the LEAP camp leaders?

The LEAP Summer Day Camp and Sensational Saturdays programs are designed and taught by certified teachers or experts in the field. LEAP camps feature a huge “fun” quotient and employ innovative and creative approaches to learning through engaging activities.

Can I request that my child be put in a different age group?

We ask that all children be registered in the correct age group:

  • For our Sensational Saturdays program, we ask that you register your child for their current grade.
  • For our LEAP Summer Camp program, we ask that you register your child for the grade they will be going into for the next school year.

Where is the LEAP Camp located?

We are located in Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Education on the Waterloo campus at the Bricker Academic building. You can contact our office at or 519.884.1970 x3173.

Do you go on field trips?

Yes! Some of our camps visit Waterloo Park or other areas within walking distance from Wilfrid Laurier University. Any field trips for our camps require the completion of a field trip permission form signed by the camper’s parent/guardian.


What grade should I select for my child?

For our Sensational Saturdays program, we ask that you register your child for their current grade. For our LEAP Summer Camp program, we ask that you register your child for the grade they will be going into for the next school year.

I have more than one camper I would like to register in Eventbrite, how do I register them both?

To register, you click on the green “Register” button; then if you are registering multiple children, you can add them all to your cart. At checkout, use their name(s) under “Camper Name” and your name in other fields. All other information (birthday, address, etc.) are for the camper(s) and not the parent.

I registered for the wrong camp, what should I do?

Please contact us at and we can work with you to switch camps, space permitting.

Can I change the camp I have registered my child for?

Can I pay by cheque or cash instead of a credit card?

Yes. Please contact us at to arrange an alternative payment before you register your camper through the Eventbrite page.


Will I get a confirmation email with my registration?

You will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite – please check your junk mail/spam folders. You can also log into your account to check your registrations under “Tickets.”

Do you provide income tax receipts?

The receipt mailed to you by Eventbrite serves as your receipt for income tax purposes. You can also log into your Eventbrite account and under “Tickets” you will find a log of your transactions.

Do you offer extended after camp care?

Yes! After camp care runs from 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. with an additional cost of $8/day. You can opt into after camp care on Eventbrite.

Do you offer Bursaries?

Yes! To apply, complete the Bursary Application Form (two pages) to apply for financial assistance. Bursary applications will be reviewed as they are received and we will contact you to verify whether your request has been approved.

If you have already registered your child in a camp but are interested in receiving bursary help in the form of a partial or full refund, please indicate that on the application form.

Can my child be picked up or dropped off by someone other than a parent/guardian?

Yes! You can indicate who has permission to pick up/drop off your child in the Eventbrite form, by emailing us closer to the start of camp at, or by letting us know in person when you bring your child to camp.

Is camp nut free?

At LEAP we strive to maintain a nut-free environment. Any products supplied by our LEAP program are nut-free and we ask all campers to bring nut-free products in their lunches and snacks.
