Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

COVID-19 Update (May 28)

The Laurier Faculty of Education and LAUNCH team have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and the recommendations being made by Laurier, Ontario Public Health, and government officials. After careful consideration and planning, the Faculty of Education has made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person LEAP and LAUNCH program for July 6 – 17, 2020. As a result, we will be providing current registrants a full refund.

Laurier's Faculty of Education is exploring ways to offer online enrichment opportunities and learning experiences to children and youth this summer in response to this cancellation. More information will be released at a later date.

We want to thank you for your patience, flexibility and understanding during this time. You can contact us at launch@wlu.ca with any inquiries you may have.

For the latest updates, visit Laurier’s coronavirus information page.

About LAUNCH

LAUNCH is an accelerated, problem-based camp for children in grades 4-8 as of September 2020. LAUNCH is designed for those students who are looking for more of a challenge to reach their full potential – the pace is much faster, the expectations for self-direction are much higher and the concepts are more advanced. Our programs are led by certified teachers and are carefully developed to be high quality learning experiences.

Our campers:

  • Are working more than three grade levels above his/her grade (documentation* required).
  • Are self-directed learners.
  • Have deep knowledge in several different topics.
  • Are able to consider a problem situation from many diverse perspectives.

Twice-exceptional learners are also welcome to apply. We welcome children from the homeschool community.

*Documentation consists of a psychoeducational assessment, an IPRC recommendation for gifted services or the completion of the supplemental application survey.

Registration

Eligibility Process

If your child has not attended LAUNCH before and you believe they would be a good fit for the program, submit at least one of the following documents to launch@wlu.ca:

If you have any questions regarding application and/or eligibility, email launch@wlu.ca.

Registration Process

The camp is limited to the first 15 qualified campers who apply. We place a lower limit on the size of a LAUNCH camp because each camper may be thinking on a wavelength unique to him/her. This requires the teacher to prepare multiple different lessons each day to allow students to have an individualized experience. Our limited camp size ensures the experience is fulfilling for everyone. Please see LAUNCH Policies and Conditions for more information.

Winter 2020 Camps Information
