Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Campus Ambassador
Fourth-Year Business Administration
Burlington, ON

Hey Future Golden Hawks!

My name is Sarah Tompkins, and I am in my fourth year of the Business Administration program with the co-op option. I grew up in Burlington, but in three VERY fast years, Laurier has become my home. This will be my third year as an ambassador, and I’m so excited to be able to share my experiences with you and help you make Laurier your home, too!

First off, I just want to say that I’m so happy you are considering Laurier for your postsecondary education! When I was looking at schools to go to after high school, I was drawn to Laurier because of the incredible business program, but also because of the tight-knit community, the high energy and all of the amazing opportunities to get involved. When I went on a tour of the campus, I found out it was so much more than what could be written on paper. Laurier for me, was home. It was a place that I could see myself being unbelievably happy, and a place that I continue to fall more in love with every day.

Now, you have probably heard friends and family say that university will be the best four years of your life  I can tell you from my experience, they're not lying! It is absolutely crazy to think that my time here is coming to an end, and I can honestly say that my experience at Laurier is the best thing that ever happened to me. It is so important to find somewhere you love, and a place you can call home. To me, university is a place for you to figure out who you want to be, and be that very best version of yourself. You can read everything you want to read online, listen to friends and family, or look at statistics and facts, but when it comes down to it, this decision is 100% yours. Find the place that makes you happy, and the place that you can see yourself calling home. For me, Laurier is the best decision I have ever made.

In my first three years, I was able to get involved in my residence House Council as the vice-president of training and development, the Residence Volunteer Program, and the Volunteer Visit Program. I was also able to participate in Orientation Week, Hawk Weekend, Group Fitness, and the Laurier Skating Team, in addition to being a Laurier Campus Ambassador. Everything I have been involved in so far has been able to shape what has been the best experience of my life. There are so many opportunities at Laurier to find exactly what you love, and, if you can’t, there are even more opportunities to start something new!

I cannot picture myself anywhere else but Laurier, and I am confident that you will love it here just as much as I do. I am so happy to be an ambassador again, to answer all of your questions, and to help you with anything you may need as you start your journey into postsecondary education. I know it can be scary, but take a deep breath and send me an email if it gets overwhelming! I'm here to help make that decision easier, and hopefully I can give you a tour around campus sometime soon! These will be the best years of your life, so remember to cherish all of the memories, and of course, stay golden!
