Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Hey Friends!

My name is Aram Mohammadi, and I’m currently completing an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I’m in my fourth and final year at Laurier and I hope to move on to a career in the medical field or research within the sciences.

During grade 12, looking at what programs and schools to apply to was a very overwhelming process! A lot of my teachers wanted me to apply to programs in classes they taught and my parents really wanted me to pick a school near home. All of these different influences really didn’t help when trying to narrow down choices so I looked to my other family and friends for some advice. My close cousin told me about her experiences at Laurier and how it shaped her life so I decided I would give the local university a shot. I came on a tour and the ambassador leading the tour told me all about her experiences and, ever since then, I haven’t looked back!

During my first year I was a little shy so I didn’t really volunteer much. I then met someone who I now consider the spark that got me to start volunteering. In my second year, I joined the Emergency Response Team, where I helped students around campus performing first aid. From there I applied to become an executive and that led me to volunteer in other clubs like WarmWorkers Laurier. At Laurier I like to tell people that there’s a club for everything and, if there isn’t, you can start one yourself!

Throughout my years I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and have everlasting experiences that I could have never achieved if I hadn’t come to Laurier. I participated in Orientation Week for the first time as a volunteer during my third year and this is when I realized I really loved my school and wanted first-years to feel the same love.

I can’t wait to meet you in the fall, future Golden Hawks!
