Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Hey future Golden Hawks!

Choosing the university where you will attain your undergraduate degree is one of the hardest decisions you will make. But choosing the university that will become home is made easy when it comes to Laurier and the help of campus ambassadors like myself. My name is Allie Russell, and three years ago I found my home at Wilfrid Laurier University.

From the very first day of Orientation Week, I knew this was the place for me. My first time cheering along to Laurier's favourite cheer "It's Great! To be! A Laurier Golden Hawk!" I was already in agreement. I think what made the transition to university life so easy for me were the amazing icebreakers who strive to make each and every first-year student feel welcome and at home during their first week and throughout the school year. I was lucky to find such a strong support system through new friends, icebreakers, club leaders and more in my first year.

One of my favourite things about Laurier is the ability to get involved. In my first year at Laurier, I was a member of my residence House Council as a vice-president, and I joined the Laurier Investment and Finance Association. Since then, I have been an Orientation Week icebreaker, a vice-president of Students Offering Support (SOS) and have played intramural dodgeball and inner-tube water polo (we really do have it all at Laurier!). The best thing I've found about being involved is how much smaller it makes the school feel. It's amazing to walk anywhere on campus and always see friendly faces.

So friends, I congratulate you on taking the first step towards the best decision you will ever make, and I look forward to welcoming you to your future home!
