Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.
Senior Campus Ambassador
Fourth-Year Kinesiology
Brampton, ON

Hey future Golden Hawks! My name is Alessandra Autieri, and I’m in my fourth year of the Bachelor of Arts Kinesiology and Physical Education program with a minor in Psychology.

When applying to universities, the thought of attending Laurier was nerve-racking since I only knew a handful of other people who planned on coming here. However, my first campus tour completely opened my eyes to all of the unique possibilities that Laurier offers. So now, here I am four years later, part of not just a community, but also a family, and dreading the day I graduate.

Being in a small program with even smaller class sizes has been a great asset to my education. All of my professors know me by name and having this relationship has made it incredibly welcoming when it comes to communicating with faculty. Also, the professors (especially those in the Kinesiology program) have diverse research backgrounds that allow you to be exposed to a variety of opportunities in your field of study. With their help, I’ve discovered both educational and vocational pathways as options when I graduate that I never would have considered otherwise.

As for extracurriculars, there’s always something to get involved in! From the day I moved into King Street residence, I have been involved with ARK (Acts of Random Kindness), Free The Children, Habitat for Humanity, Shinerama, Kin Games, Team Up Laurier, Winter Carnival, Presidential Elections, Headstart, and the Athletic Complex, where I was a group exercise instructor for two years. I have also attended and facilitated philanthropic events such as We Day Waterloo, Relay for Life, Inside Ride, Habitat for Humanity builds, and the CARSTAR Walk to End Cystic Fibrosis. This year, I am thrilled to be the Orientation Week Logistics Executive, part of the Laurier Kin Games team, and a Senior Campus Ambassador!

I truly believe there is no university that compares to Laurier. The knowledge, life skills, relationships, and memories I’ve gathered here are irreplaceable. I never thought a school could have such a large impact on who I’m becoming, and I can proudly say, accepting my offer of admission to Laurier was the best decision I ever made. I would love the chance to take you around campus and let you see for yourself why us Golden Hawks love it here!

Good luck with your decision-making, and we hope to see you very soon! Stay golden.
