Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

One of the easiest ways to learn what it is like to be a Laurier Golden Hawk is to visit us and experience it for yourself. You're invited to join us Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for our Fall Open House on the Brantford campus.

What You Can Do at Open House

Open House is one of the best times to visit campus! Our students, staff and faculty are all looking forward to meeting you and answering any questions you have about university and what our Brantford campus has to offer.

  • Take a campus tour, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: A student volunteer will be happy to show you all the sights and sounds of campus. Tours will be departing from the Research and Academic Building located at 150 Dalhousie St.
  • Explore our residence buildings, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: The doors are open, and our current residents will take the time to show you our apartment-style residence options.
  • Attend our information fair, 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Speak with representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, the Students' Union, and faculty members who are here to help make your decision easier. The information fair will be located at the Research and Academic Building.
  • Get involved in open house sessions: Faculty and students will help to explain our programs, and answer all of your important questions. We're also offering a workshop on how to transition into university along with life in residence.

Campus Tours

Join one of our student volunteers for a guided tour of campus. Tours are available all day from the Research and Academic Centre west wing and will take approximately one hour. You will visit academic and faculty buildings, student recreational space and tour the downtown core of Brantford. Tours are available on an ongoing basis throughout the day with the last tour departing at 2:30 p.m. Please note that visiting residence is done separately through the Residence Open House portion of the event.

Remembrance Day

As our Open House is on Remembrance Day, we want to ensure the university community and visitors are able to acknowledge this occasion. We will observe two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m. and will be distributing poppies to visitors.

Parking Information

Although parking is available on most downtown city streets for free, this is timed parking and the city will ticket cars that exceed the posted time limit. Therefore, we highly recommend that you park in the Market Centre Parkade located at 59 Icomm Drive, adjacent to our Brantford campus. The Parkade is free on Saturdays. There will be volunteers and signage to direct you to and from the Parkade and throughout various checkpoints across campus.

If you have an accessible parking permit, we ask that you please contact Rachel Cavin (rcavin@wlu.ca) in advance of Open House so that we can do our best to accommodate you.

Use our event parking map to help you get to the Parkade and use it for walking directions to the Research and Academic Centre. Note: Our event parking map works best in the Google Maps mobile app. If on a web browser, Google Maps asks you to log in to view the map, try opening the link in a different browser to access the map.

Road Closures on Nov. 11

Please note that our event will be taking place on Remembrance Day and will coincide with the community civic service, taking place at the Brant War Memorial. There will be some street closures to accommodate the service. We advise that it is best to park at the Market Centre Parkade, which is free for Open House guests. From this parking location, the welcome registration area located within the Research and Academic Centre is less than a three-block walk from the Parkade. We have marked all road closures on our event parking map.

The following streets will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the Remembrance Day Service:

  • Brant Avenue between Church Street and Colborne Street
  • Dalhousie Street between Market Street and Brant Avenue
  • Market Street between Dalhousie Street and Darling Street (southbound lane)
