Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Updated: May 26, 2022

As the province of Ontario relaxes public health restrictions as part of the Roadmap to Reopen, and with the support of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Waterloo Region Public Health, and the Brant County Health Unit, Laurier is pausing its proof of vaccination beginning May 1. Based on a review of public health conditions, Laurier’s mandatory face-covering policy remains in effect beyond May 31 and until further notice.

Laurier continues to follow recommendations from public health, and encourages our community to stay up to date on their vaccinations should public health recommendations change.

Health and Safety

  • Vaccinations: Laurier’s proof of vaccination requirements are paused as of May 1. Should public health recommendations change, vaccination requirements can be brought back on short notice. Members of the Laurier community are encouraged to remain up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, including booster doses.
  • Self-Assessing Symptoms: Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should not attend campus. Daily self-assessments are encouraged.
  • Masks and Protective Equipment: Laurier’s face-covering policy dictates that anyone on campus must wear an approved face covering in all indoor common areas such as hallways, lobbies, lounges or elevators, in classrooms and laboratories.
  • Enhancing Cleaning: Cleaning and disinfecting all touch points (e.g. doors, elevators, stair rails, washrooms, etc.) for occupied areas. Hand sanitizer in common areas, sanitizing products in workspaces and disinfectant sprays in washrooms are available to encourage additional cleaning measures.
  • Ventilation and Air Quality: Ventilation systems are monitored to ensure they are operating properly and effectively. The ventilation system has been enhanced where possible to control the spread.

Pandemic Recovery

The Pandemic Recovery Steering Group (PRSG) oversees the development of recovery plans for the university's operations – in support of the academic mission, and with the health and safety of our students, staff and faculty at the forefront.

Guiding Principles

  • Safeguard the health and safety of our university community.
  • Maintain academic and research excellence.
  • Enhance our exceptional student experience.
  • Demonstrate our commitment to the care and well-being of our employees.
  • Continue to partner with our local communities as an anchor institution.

Scaling Framework

The university’s return-to-campus planning and assessment activities are a dynamic, evolving process.

The PRSG developed a COVID-19 scaling framework to guide safety planning, decision making and priority setting in regards to campus operations and activities. The framework identifies four levels – low, moderate, high and critical – independently applied to ten campus categories.

Research

Laurier’s Office of Research Services has developed an approval process with rigorous health and safety protocols to ensure that all faculty members who wish to undertake research activities can safely do so. Detailed information for researchers, including application forms for resuming research, can be found on the Office of Research Services page on Connect.
