We would like to confirm that Wilfrid Laurier University remains operational following the Ontario Premier’s announcement March 23 about the closure of all non-essential services.
As many of you will be aware, the provincial government announced yesterday a list of essential workplaces that can continue to operate on-site services. The list can be found on the Government of Ontario website and is in effect as of 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. It is important to note that this list does not preclude businesses from continuing to operate and provide services online and remotely.
Laurier remains operational, and has moved a significant portion of our workforce to work remotely. We will continue to do so as long as it is required in accordance with government directives and in an effort to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19.
Based on an assessment of the university’s operations, only the following services can continue to operate and perform duties on-site, but only as required:
For employees working on-site, health and safety measures and protocols will continue to be put in place to safeguard wellbeing and to facilitate physical distancing and encourage hygiene and regular handwashing. Personal protective equipment has been provided to higher risk positions.
