Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Associate Professor, Faculty of Education

I co-lead the Haiti Educator and Leadership Institute, a three-year program which seeks to build the capacity of educators in Haiti. The institute, which operated for the first time in August 2016, is a very condensed program. We have about 200 teachers in the program who are working with a group of 12-14 Canadian instructors. The idea is that in various courses from mathematics, science, critical literacy, special education, leadership and early learning, we are helping our Haitian colleagues develop the capacity to be the best teachers and best school principals they can be.

I also co-lead the Glocal co-curricular program in the Laurier Faculty of Education, which provides an opportunity for global and environmental experiential learning.
