Biography / Academic Background
I have a BSc in physics and geology as well as a PhD in geochemistry from the University of Guelph. I did my post doctoral work at Cornell University in planetary science.
Research Interests / Ongoing Projects
My research interests include:
- Martian geochemistry of rocks, soils, and dust at Mars rover landing sites.
- Collaboration between Mars Science Laboratory Rover instruments on laboratory analogue studies to optimize the instrument data received.
- Mineral phase effects of martian rocks and soils using the APXS instrument.
- Model coatings and dust coverage on rocks studied by the APXS to better understand the dust composition, environment of formation of various coatings, and improve bulk rock concentrations.
Awards and Achievements
In 2013, I received the NASA Group Achievement Award for MSL APXS Instrument Development and Science Team. The award acknowledges the exceptional achievement defining the APXS goals and requirements, developing the instrument and investigation and operating APXS successfully on Mars.
