While we have listed RCM levels below, the Beckett School at Laurier can accommodate teaching theory within any system including but not limited to Conservatory Canada or lessons tailored to university preparation.
Due to COVID-19, theory classes may be delivered using an online format. Required workbooks are included in the cost of each group class ($20 value) and will be provided to students.
It is the student's responsibility to register for RCM exams before the registration deadline.
All incoming students will be required to complete a diagnostic assessment to determine suitable grade level. Our instructor reserves the right to place student in the grade most suitable. Due to the nature of the course content, all material must be covered for each grade before a student can move on to the next level. Students do not have to write exams for each grade, they only need to cover material. For example, students wishing to complete level 8 will be expected to be proficient with level 7 material.
Students who have not had previous theory instruction may join the Beginner Theory Prep Class. This class will cover course material from RCM Levels 1-4 in preparation for the intermediate level classes.
RCM Levels 6 and 8, History 9 and Harmony 10 classes will be delivered February to May 2022.
Students who complete certain practical and theory requirements may be eligible to receive secondary school credit or a Royal Conservatory Certificate.
The value of Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations is recognized by our Ontario Ministry of Education. Students who complete the following practical and theory requirements may receive up to two high school credit.
