Our well-trained, fully qualified Beckett School at Laurier instructors offer group lessons for students of all ages, at any skill level as private lessons and specialized group ensembles.
Ensembles and group lessons create opportunities for students of all ages to develop the skills to collaborate and cooperate musically. Ensembles provide unique opportunities for students to develop and sharpen their musical skills and abilities while playing a variety of musical works with their peers.
The PEPP classes offer a supportive group environment where young pianists can development greater confidence, musicianship skills, and overall performance experience that will help prepare for exams, festivals, and other performance events.
Students will have increased opportunities for solo and ensemble performance, develop critical listening and evaluation skills, and develop effective practice strategies that will enhance their studio lessons.

For students who desire to sample a variety of musical possibilities. This wonderful introductory course is an opportunity for students, ages 7 to 10, to explore different areas of music. Students will be introduced to a variety of musical disciplines while continuing to grow their musicianship skills. The goal of this course is to introduce students to several different areas of music so they may choose the path that most engages them.
This 28-week course will be divided into four semesters with each semester devoted to a different area of study. Every seven weeks there will be a mini recital when the students can demonstrate the skills they have learned and at that time they are introduced to the next teacher and discipline. Suzuki Flute students enjoy learning carefully graded repertoire through lessons, group musical activities, and guided listening. Parent-guided practice and at home listening supports students’ progress.
Led by drummer/percussionist Dave O'Neill, this ensemble will explore the many elements of performing Jazz in a band setting; reading, ear training, harmony, melody, song forms and improvisation. No experience in the art of Jazz improvisation is necessary, just a willingness to step outside of your musical comfort zone! A basic level of theory (RCM Grade 2) and accompanying facility on the instrument is preferred. These ensembles are open to all instrumentalists and vocalists.
All classes will be offered at 190 Lester Street, Waterloo.
Are you interested in playing a wind instrument in a group setting, and enjoying the social side of music-making? Would you like to expand musically beyond your private lessons? The Beckett School at Laurier winds faculty invites wind students of all ages and ability levels to join one of our small wind ensemble classes, led by instructor Danielle Beck and Laurel Swinden.
Students will learn a variety of repertoire that will challenge and develop their ensemble skills in a fun group setting. All classes will come together for a final performance of their pieces at the end of each session. Participants will be matched with other wind players of similar ages and ability (based on availability and a minimum enrolment of three students per class).
