I hold a Bachelor of Music Therapy (BMT) from Laurier, as well as my Associate Diploma in Piano Performance from Conservatory Canada. I am also an Ontario Certified Teacher, currently working with the Waterloo Region District School Board.
My musical career began with piano lessons at the age of seven. After completing my grade 10 piano examination, I continued my musical education at Laurier, where I studied with Terry Kroetsch and Elaine Lau. Upon graduating with distinction from Laurier’s Honours BMT program, I received my Associate Diploma in Piano Performance from Conservatory Canada. In pursuing my passion for teaching and learning, I completed my Bachelor of Education (BEd) at the University of Toronto. My teaching experience is extensive and varied. I have worked in India, Korea and Canada, teaching music as well as English as a second language.
I love collaborating with other musicians and connecting with my community through music. I am active in the community as a teacher and accompanist, and enjoy performing as a saxophonist with the Waterloo Concert Band.
Music has been an integral part of my life since a very early age and I am excited to share this passion with my students.
As a piano teacher, I am committed to providing my students with a comprehensive music program, integrating lessons in music theory and history, as well as various creative projects into regular piano instruction. I encourage all students to explore a range of musical styles, including classical, jazz and popular idioms.
I recognize that every student is unique, both as an individual and as a learner. As such, lessons are tailored to the unique goals, interests, needs and learning styles of each student. Every musician follows their own program of study and can choose their own goals—from practical examinations to creative musical projects, competitions, music festivals, recitals and other performance opportunities.
I employ a range of teaching methods and learning activities, and make use of technology and apps to enhance instruction and ensure lessons are engaging and motivating. Above all, my aim is to equip students with the musical skills that will enable them to engage in creative self-expression through music. By setting high standards and providing engaging and motivating lessons, I hope to instill in my students a life-long passion for music and music-making.
