Academic Background: Associate Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Music, Wilfrid Laurier University
After 21 years of teaching voice at the post-secondary level, I continue to give masterclasses internationally, and teach at summer programs - notably at the Casalmaggiore Festival in Italy, and at the International Summer Music Academy of Lyon, France where I am returning for my 7th session.
I have been performing professionally since 1974, and continue to perform internationally. This year, besides several recitals in Canada and Europe, I will sing with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, PA, and perform the world premiere of Ruth Fazal's new Oratorio, Ezekiel - Out of Exile in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa.
I have always been surprised by the role of serendipity in my personal and artistic life - I would never have predicted that I would do much of what I have experienced, in particular since I began to explore the world of music. And I am happy to report the adventure continues!
Honourary Alumnus of the Year, Wilfrid Laurier University, 2014
In 2006, I was selected as one of four Coach/Adjudicators for a BRAVO-TV sponsored national opera singing talent search and three-week Opera Boot Camp. The full proceedings were filmed and aired as a six show 'Reality TV' series on BRAVO beginning in February 2007, repeated during the summer of 2007. The series has also been viewed in the United States and has been aired repeatedly across Canada since winning a Gemini Award in 2007 for Best General/Human Interest Series.
Juno Award Nomination, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, 1992
Finalist, Joy in Singing Competition, New York 1992
Finalist, Concert Artists Guild Competition, New York, 1988
Outstanding Performer Award, Du Maurier Search for Stars, 1986
I have had the privilege of studying and performing internationally and am a strong advocate for international study, be it long-term or short-term. I continue to do all I can to encourage students to spend some of their years of pursuing the dream by exploring it in an international context. It will enrich them in unanticipated ways.
