The purpose of this intensive Spring term piano lab is to master a weaker area in the student’s playing by dedicating three weeks to working on it exclusively, which would enable handling similar challenges in subsequent repertoire with more ease.
Dates: May 9 to May 27, 2022 (Times TBD)
Lessons will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is subject to change and participants will be notified.
Location: Sessions will be held in the Aird Building, or at the Beckett School at Laurier (190 Lester Street, Waterloo).
Cost: $275 (includes nine 45-minute lessons and one masterclass)
*No lessons on May 23, 2022.
Students get three 45-minute individual lessons per week and minimum one masterclass in total (subject to enrollment).
OPEN TO: students enrolled in the Faculty of Music, any year of study.
Successful completion of the course will be added to the On-Campus Employment module of your Laurier Experience Record.
1. You must be enrolled in the Faculty of Music at WLU in the piano program. Or, as a Community Music student with piano as your main instrument.
2. You must submit an application form. All submissions are subject to approval and acceptance by Anya Alexeyev. The form is due April 10, 2022.
If accepted, the student will be working on one or two reasonably prepared works, to concentrate in depth on the proposed topic of their choice. For example: mastering double notes, shape and tone in melody, octaves, pedalling, fingering, trills, etc. This lab will be taught by one or more Laurier piano instructors, subject to enrollment. This enrichment lab is not for credit. At the end of the lab students will get a WLU certificate of completion.
