I am pleased to join the Faculty of Education as a field supervisor after enjoying a diversity of experiences in the school system as a teacher, department head, program coordinator and principal.
My career has allowed me to see education from a variety of perspectives working within schools and with leaders from across the province in a kindergarten to grade 12 context. Outside of being surrounded by so many great students, teachers, parents and central board staff in the Guelph area, some of my more rewarding experiences have included participating in Ministry of Education projects. These included assuming roles as a facilitator and co-writer, supporting Ontario school leaders in the area of literacy improvement planning and as a collaborator on a provincial advisory panel connecting practice and research in mathematics education.
Throughout my career, I have always seen the role of a teacher as a facilitator of learning and continue to embrace this philosophy working with teacher education candidates.
After completing a guidance specialist qualification, I developed an understanding of the critical role of counselling in education. Through counselling, individuals can experience empathy and a place of safety where they are guided in their discernment and decision making.
As a program coordinator in the Wellington Catholic District School Board, my responsibilities centred around developing and maintaining a deeper understanding of curriculum and the importance of assessment in supporting student success. In the latter part of my career, I assumed a role of mentoring school leaders in Ontario school boards in evidence based decision making as it applied to school improvement.
