Professor Kotsopoulos is a professor in the Faculty of Education, cross appointed to the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science. She is a former associate vice-president Research (acting), graduate coordinator, and associate dean. Professor Kotsopoulos is the director of the Mathematical Brains Laboratory. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT). She was recently awarded the Hoffman-Little Award for Faculty for excellence in teaching, research, and professional endeavor. She was also recently awarded an OCUFA teaching award. She was recognized in 2016 for her outstanding research and outreach activities over her career with the national Partners In Research Mathematics Ambassador Award.
Professor Kotsopoulos's research focuses on early mathematical cognition and learning. She has an emerging interest in post-secondary leadership. Her research is currently funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC; Discovery Grant) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC; Insight Grant & Insight Development Grant). She has also held funding from Ontario Centres of Excellence, Mitacs, Knowledge Network for Applied Education Research (KNAER), and private industry. Her research has resulted in social innovation and the successful US trademarking of the LittleCounters® program. She is the founding and current co-editor of the Fields Mathematics Education Journal.
