Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Prior to joining Laurier, I worked in the field of education for 35 years in a variety of roles, including a classroom teacher, teacher librarian, Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) learning services consultant (literacy and French as a second language), reading recovery teacher, WRDSB learning services program coordinator (responsible for literacy, French as a second language, English as a second language, kindergarten and the arts) and elementary school administrator.
During my 10 years working in WRDSB learning services as a consultant and coordinator, I had many opportunities to work on school board and Ontario Ministry of Education projects. Some of these included, the development and implementation of the WRDSB early literacy intervention program, writer and provincial trainer for the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) Junior Literacy Expert Panel Report and guides to effective literacy instruction for grade four to six, writer and presenter MOET differentiated instruction training package.
I also presented at a variety of provincial association conferences (OMLTA, STAO, OLA, OAJE) on literacy related topics. I received a Master of Education in Curriculum and Learning from the University of Toronto in 2003 and have taught additional qualification courses (Reading 2 and Specialist, Junior Basic) for three universities (UWO, University of Toronto, Nipissing).
I began as a sessional instructor for Laurier's Faculty of Education in 2015 and have taught a variety of courses. I have also served as a field supervisor of many teacher education candidates.
