I received my PhD in literary studies from Cambridge University in the U.K. in 1985 and my MA from McMaster University in 1973. Prior to coming to Laurier in 2001, I taught at the University of Toronto for 10 years. I have also worked as a research assistant to a member of Parliament and a member of provincial parliament.
I teach and research in the area of Indigenous literatures and film, European film and autobiography/life writing. I’m currently finishing a project on German women filmmakers who made films in East Germany just prior to the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990.
I’ve held several research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council for my project on autobiographical filmmaking as well as several conference grants dealing with Indigenous issues.
I am willing to supervise graduate students in the areas of autobiographical writing and Indigenous literatures and filmmaking.
