I joined the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and the Cold Regions Research Centre at the Wilfrid Laurier University as a Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Remote Sensing of Environmental Change in July 2019. I hold a BSc in Mathematics (2007) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and a MSc and Ph.D. in Physical Geography (2011 and 2015) from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
During my graduate studies, I carried out NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate and President’s Graduate Scholarships (2012-15). After my graduate studies, I held a NSERC Visiting Fellowship in Canadian Government Laboratories as a post-doctoral fellow with Environment and Climate Change Canada (2016-17). I also worked as a research scientist with the Ecohydrology Research Group at the University of Waterloo (2017-19) as part of the Global Water Futures project, which looks at the era of immense water-related threats due to climate change and human actions the world is entering. I am the co-chair of program development for the “Canadian Science Policy Conference (CSPC)" since 2018, and co-chair of “Canadian Symposium of Remote Sensing” (CSRS 2021).
My research will support the emerging spectrum of environmental issues throughout the cold region, applying remote sensing methods and mathematical modeling. I study the response of cold region hydrology related to changing the climate, such as lake ice, snow cover, land cover incorporate satellite observations of surface and subsurface processes in mesoscale numerical models. My current areas of interest include the development of statistical modeling and machine learning of the relationship between ice extent, environmental drivers, and water quality, the response of lakes to contemporary and projected climate conditions.

I am recruiting highly qualified undergraduate thesis, MSc, and PhD students in fields of remote sensing and modeling in cold region hydrology. Students who have northern research experience, have expertise in UAS and orbital remote sensing analysis, model development and machine learning techniques apply here.
