I always aim to conduct myself in a way that leaves everyone encountered feeling valued, and like a somebody. Leadership to me is about being an example and to seek the difference you need to be the difference. I hope to leave a mark on my team and those I work with that kindness, fairness and respect will win every time, we can achieve anything together if we keep those pillars holding us up. If I can show up and be authentic, vulnerable while influencing those around me to feel they can safely, openly contribute to organizational success, we all win.
Nothing compares to the satisfaction I get from being able to empower, inspire and help people. Be it encouraging a colleague or team member to adapt to change, removing impediments for the team, seeing positive departmental growth and helping individuals grow … everything excites me.
It is important that I am part of something that is bigger than myself. Making an impact to my teams work life, confidence, overall morale and seeing my team grow together in turn offering our Laurier community a thriving, safe work environment, that inspires me!
I see myself as a leader with within the Laurier community as I know my positive, genuine approach reaches many. The Laurier success factors are aligned with my own values and leadership to me is a lifestyle. Our conduct and approach to situations can produce various outcomes, I look for ways to maximize the efforts of my team and department while being conscious of their input and letting them know it is valued. Ultimately, leadership is not about who is in charge. It's about making sure your team stays focused on the goals, keeping them motivated and helping them be the best they can be to achieve those goals. Even when it means stepping outside my comfort zone to make a difference.
I come from a large multi-campus department influenced by several stakeholder relationships and have the ability to interact and influence several members of our Laurier community.
My consistent actions and contributions to the Laurier community, aligned with my personal values that are rooted in respect reflect I actively show gratitude to my team, embrace failing forward and never take for granted or forget the human element to team performance when making every decision.
