Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Print | PDFOur Laurier leaders inspire the lives of leadership and purpose at Laurier. These leaders are comprised of our employees who wish to share their experiences working at Laurier, what inspires them and what being a part of the Laurier community means to them.
Christie Johnson is the manager of International Recruitment and Admissions.
Through the relationships with staff and partners within and outside Laurier that are built and valued, providing inspiration to others and receiving it from others is a wonderful reciprocal interaction. Modeling positive and effective behaviours and practices, providing innovative approaches to solving issues, connecting with people on a very authentic and interpersonal level and meeting challenges with a positive and collaborative attitude are all ways that leadership and purpose for the life I live and the work I do are valued.
People and relationships inspire me. Relationships are not all easy or smooth, but listening to people, hearing their stories and being part of their adventures inspire me. My family is a great big source of inspiration for me and my children inspire me every single day!
Example and with an attitude of continuous improvement. Either through self-awareness and development or through creating and revising processes, I am continually looking for ways to develop myself and those around me to reach our full potential.
As a student here, I felt supported and valued. I wanted to work at a place that encouraged independent thinking and relationship building. Throughout all of the positions I have held at Laurier, I have always found the support and encouragement I have needed and also feel that I have contributed to developing others.
Caring for, challenging and supporting each other. Changing lives. Inspiring people to see things differently, to do things in a new way, to better themselves and this world. Knowing that there is a purpose and meaning to the work that we do. Working in International Recruitment, Admissions and Partnerships is a very rewarding career to be able to assist with students who are making a major life decision to come to a new country to study here. Although I suppose the assumption is that we inspire them, I believe the opposite to be true. The international students, their families and their schools inspire us to do the best job we can every single day.
