"Inclusive Excellence embodies our vision to fully embrace discovery, scholarly exploration, and application of new ideas, while engaging and challenging the world in all its complexity. This program is just one way that Laurier continues to intentionally build a thriving community that embraces diversity and inclusion."
– Deborah MacLatchy, President and Vice-Chancellor
“The Inclusive Excellence hiring initiative is part of a larger Indigenization plan at Laurier. Hiring Indigenous scholars provides the opportunity to intentionally make space for the intellectual contributions of Indigenous thought and philosophy. By having authentic Indigenous scholars teaching and researching at Laurier, we will demonstrate to the university community and beyond the possibilities of action toward reconciling relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples.”
– Dr. Darren Thomas, AVP: Indigenous Initiatives
We are truly passionate about this initiative, and our efforts to intentionally build a thriving community. As a multi-campus, multi-community university, Laurier is known for offering unique programs that make each campus its own, while retaining the essence of Laurier's strong community culture that binds us together.
Faculty scholarship will be aligned with the six themes in Laurier’s Strategic Research Plan: environments and sustainability; psychological and social determinants of health and well-being; governance and policy; Indigeneity, decolonization, equity, diversity and inclusion; business, technology and innovation; and society, culture and community.
We are excited to engage with scholars and further enhance the university's diverse ways of engaging community, teaching, research and scholarship. As one of a series of policy changes and initiatives to address systemic racism outlined in Laurier’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Indigeneity Action Plan, aimed at addressing systemic racism, the available positions align with the inclusive community and Indigeneity themes as part of the university’s broader efforts to advance strategic academic and research goals and enhance academic excellence and student experience.
Laurier encourages applications from those whose scholarship and teaching may not fit traditional academic conventions. Laurier is particularly interested in welcoming Indigenous Scholars whose contributions to Indigenous thought and philosophy will enhance the academic standing and culture of the university as it continues to evolve rapidly into a more research-intensive, comprehensive, university.
