Let me start by saying what a privilege it is to be here at this special event, celebrating some of our most exceptional student-athletes.
I want to also recognize the generosity and engagement of everyone here tonight. It is because of you that our Laurier women have access to exceptional athletics programs, coaching and scholarships.
Thank you for your unwavering support of our student athletes.
Tonight is a celebration! The women we are recognizing have demonstrated incredible commitment to athletics, academics, and leadership in our community. Jenna Lazarou, Sydney Pattison, and Danielle Wark: you inspire us all with your achievements.
As an aside, I would like to note that all three of our nominees this evening are students in the Faculty of Science.
As a biologist myself, I feel especially proud to be celebrating fellow scientists! Although I was certainly not their calibre of athlete!
I think we should all pause for a moment to consider the time and dedication it takes to excel in a demanding university program.
Now, add on the pressures of training to be an athlete who is competitive at the varsity level.
If that isn’t enough, pack in volunteer work, coaching and community service.
Balancing these competing demands demonstrates a dedication to excellence, commitment to helping others and super human time management!
Let’s give a round of applause for Jenna, Sydney and Danielle. You are all deserving of recognition tonight.
These young women exemplify leadership.
They not only set an example for others, they are also willing to reach back those who need it. Sharing your talents and skills to lift others up is truly in the spirit of our Laurier community.
Our three nominees tonight have set a very high bar of excellence.
I look forward to hearing of your continued success at Laurier and in the future.
And once again, thank you to our students, staff, faculty, community members and sponsors who have gathered here tonight.
Thank you for supporting Laurier’s women in sport and academic excellence.
