It was an incredible privilege to be at this special event with all of the members of our community. The three women nominated for this award – Jessa Braun, Emily Ferguson and Bridget Ribau – set an example for all of us at Laurier with their commitment to their academics, community and chosen sports.
It would be easy and understandable for these women to have focused solely on excellence in sport and academics. That in itself would have been an admirable pursuit.
However, they have also shared their time and expertise to coach and develop the skills of young athletes in our community.
This is what true leadership looks like.
It is the generosity of spirit that drives you to reach back and help others achieve their goals, while continuing to forge ahead to achieve your own. It is the ability to share your talents and skills to life others up with you.
Jessa, Emily and Bridget have set a bar of excellence at Laurier and are truly inspiring lives of leadership and purpose.
My very best wishes for their continued success at Laurier and in the future.
Thank you to everyone who made this night such a memorable event.
