Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

The Laurier String Academy is open to children ages 5 to 18 who wish to study the violin or cello through a curriculum that includes private and group lessons, theory and masterclasses, chamber music and performance opportunities. Instruction is based on the methods and philosophies of Mimi Zweig, Shinichi Suzuki and Paul Rolland.

Beginning students participate in a weekly private and group lesson. Parents are required to attend the private and group lessons and participate in the daily practice. The first years of musical instruction are the most important as they set the stage for everything that follows. Even if students do not chose to become professional musicians upon the completion of their studies, all will take with them a deep love and appreciation of music.
