Hello future Golden Hawk! My name is Alex and I am a fourth year Honours Sociology major with a Legal Studies and Co-op option here at Laurier.
Whether you are reading this having accepted your offer, trying to choose between offers or are just starting to think about applications, one thing remains the same – you’re taking a really big step in your life and it can be scary. My graduating class in high school was very close and making the transition to university was definitely nerve-wracking. The good news is that I have found my home at Laurier and I’m sure you will too!
The main thing I love about Laurier is that it really feels like a community. It might sound cliché, but I have never felt like ‘just a number’ here, either inside the classroom or around campus. Along with finding my academic fit, I have also had the opportunity to be involved with some amazing extra-curriculars. Coming from a theatrical background in high school, I became a member of Laurier Musical Theatre and performed in the annual musical in my second year. Last year I filled my days working at our Athletic Centre’s Hawk Desk, completing my second co-op work term and of course meeting future students like you as a Student Ambassador! No matter what your interests are, I guarantee you will find something to get involved with and I encourage you to do just that – there really is no better way to make the most of your university experience and meet some pretty awesome people while you’re at it.
I wish you the best of luck in making this decision and if I have one piece of advice, it’s take your time. Make sure you pick a school where you feel at home and can see yourself thriving for the next four years. For me that school is Laurier, and I hope you feel the same!
