Katelin Simpkins
Third Year History
Carrying Place, ON

Hello prospective Golden Hawks! Welcome to Wilfrid Laurier University. Regardless if you are just looking at Laurier or have already accepted your offer of admissions, I am here to help you! As you experience our amazing campus, think of your journey and what you can do at Laurier.

Let me begin my introducing myself. My name is Katelin Simpkins, I am in my third year of Honours History minoring in Geography and Women and Gender Studies. I fell in love with Laurier when I was in grade 10 and havenít looked back. It is an amazing university, where my story began.

Like anyone else, first year was a huge transition from high school to university. However, the community at Laurier made my transformation that much easier. Residences, O-Week (Orientation Week), Get Involved Fairs, and Campus Clubs shows what you can at Laurier. In first year, I was still finding my place here at Laurier. I was a note-taker for the Accessible Learning Centre, part of the History Studentsí Association, and a res-room volunteer for the Ambassadors. These three small things helped welcome me into the Laurier community. Residence was a great experience! From floor events to Dancing with the Dons, ResLife was so much fun and something I would love to do again.

As second year rolled around, I found myself fully emerged in the Laurier community. I was fortunate enough to be an Ice Breaker for O-Week, welcoming Laurierís future students to our university with a week full of events. I kept up with note-taking at the ALC and joined the Archaeology society. However, a new club caught my interest and that was Charity Ball. I took advantage of all my interests in second year and had a great year. This past summer, I was very fortunate to travel to Europe with the Laurier Centre for Military, Strategic and Disarmament Studies for a War and Memory History Course. With the LCMSDS, we traveled throughout France, Holland, and Belgium taking in battlefields of the First and Second World War.

Entering third year, I will be working as an Ambassador as well as a Dispatcher for the Special Constables on Campus. Furthermore, I will continue working with the ALC and I am an executive on Charity Ball. This is the Laurier life and I love it.

As you can see my journey through Laurier has been filled with extracurricular activities. The great thing about Laurier is that every studentís experience is different because Laurier caters to each and every student. Whatever your interests may be, Laurier has something to offer. Campus clubs, intramurals and events bring the interests of Laurier to life and they are waiting for you to join in on the fun. The opportunities are endless.

I want to wish you endless success in your university search. Myself as well as all the Student Ambassadors are here to help you find your place here at Laurier. Good luck in the future and I hope to see you around campus.
