University governance

Wilfrid Laurier University is governed by the Board of Governors and Senate.

Simply put, the Board of Governors handles the operational and financial concerns of the university, whereas the Senate oversees the university’s academic functioning.

The Board of Governors’ working committees include audit and compliance, employment practices, executive and governance, finance and physical resources, nominations and pension. The Senate’s working committees range from research and instructional development to academic planning and student life.

Each governing body consists of appointed and elected members, with cross-appointments to ensure open communication between the two.

The links in this section will provide you with information about the members, meetings, by-laws and committees of the Board of Governors and the Senate, as well as the University Act that governs them.
