Yashna Shahani

4th year Business Administration

Curacao, India

Hi Everyone! My name is Yashna Shahani and I am originally from India but I have spent the majority of my life in Curaçao, which is an island off the coast of Venezuela. I’m currently in my 4th year of the Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) program here at Laurier. Throughout my three years here, I have truly enjoyed every moment of it! However, when I look back to the time when I was choosing a university to attend, I was a little skeptical about how it would be like once I got here. When I was first making a choice of what university to go to, I considered different aspects and I’m happy to say that I made a great decision by choosing Laurier. The amount of friends I’ve been able to make within a short amount of time is incredible and I definitely am going to miss it when I graduate! When I came to Laurier in 2010, the entire community was so friendly and accepting and I felt as if this was my “home away from home” almost immediately.

That being said, there are so many different ways to get involved on campus whether it be paid employment, volunteer work, or being on the executive team of a club. Personally, I am highly involved in Women in Leadership Laurier as a Vice- President and have been associated with the club since first year. Additionally, I am an International Peer Mentor this year. Getting involved in extracurricular activities is a great way to becoming a part of the Laurier community and making the best out of your University years. These years have shown me the rare sense of community and helped me succeed in every aspect possible. It’s great to be a Laurier Golden Hawk!
