Advance your career by promoting excellence in teaching and leadership through Laurier?s innovative Master of Education (MEd).

Our interdisciplinary master?s program provides professional learning across many employment sectors in areas such as collaborative learning and instruction, innovative education through emerging technologies, and high-impact practices for teaching, learning and leadership. The Master of Education is attractive to educational leaders and professionals in a wide range of corporate and not-for-profit industries, health and community service organizations, and postsecondary institutions, as well as public and private school systems.

The Master of Education is designed to be completed part-time over 2 years and is a course-based degree.

Customize Your Learning

This program is highly individualized and customizable. You will have the opportunity to take courses of interest offered in other departments and faculties at Laurier. Learning is also flexible with a unique blended format of course delivery that includes face-to-face and online components. You get the best of both worlds: this approach was developed with your work schedule in mind and balances the benefits of being in a class with your colleagues and instructors with the freedom and flexibility of online components.

What Will You Learn?

At the conclusion of the program, graduates will be able to do the following:

  1. Articulate an advanced and integrated conceptual understanding of the relationship between theory, practice and reflection in education.
  2. Engage in the analysis and dissemination of education-related research.
  3. Apply an advanced understanding of learning and cognition theories such that diverse learning outcomes and educational needs for all students are addressed.
  4. Make connections among social, personal, and community responsibilities and intellectual life in ways that advance knowledge in the area of education.

Program Details

The Master of Education program starts in May, is offered part-time, and can be completed in 6 consecutive terms (2 years).

Students complete 8 half-courses. The last course involves a capstone portfolio project that integrates the learning experiences of the program participants with the program goals.

  • A minimum "B" standing in your final 2 years of study.
  • Two years professional experience or a completed Bachelor of Education degree with a minimum B standing.
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience or experience within the field of education is recommended.
  • Applicants with 3-year degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis via alternate admission procedures.
  • Applications are reviewed by the graduate program committee, which considers all prior university grades, a statement of research interests, a writing sample, and letters of reference.
  • Successful experience as an educator in a professional setting may be considered in the selection process.
