Laurier appoints new Director of Diversity & Equity
Wilfrid Laurier University has appointed Laura Mae Lindo as Director, Diversity & Equity, effective July 14.
Lindo joins Laurier from Ryerson where she served as Senior Research Associate at the Diversity Institute.
She holds a PhD in Philosophy of Education and a Master of Education/Bachelor of Arts in African Studies from York University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts, Philosophy from University of Toronto. Her postgraduate work in the masters and doctoral programs in education have focused on social justice issues in the classroom and teacher-education programs.
In her role as Senior Research Associate at Ryerson, Lindo brought together varied approaches to equity, education, training and mentorship through her involvement in numerous projects and partnerships with stakeholders from diverse sectors. Lindo’s most recent work with a team of mental-health practitioners aims to initiate policy changes to better support youth in schools and communities. She is engaged in research, teaching and curriculum development that supports racially marginalized youth interested in empowering themselves through education.
