WATERLOO — Wilfrid Laurier University has again earned top marks in the annual Maclean’s ranking of Canadian universities, placing first in Ontario and fifth in the country among primarily undergraduate universities, and scoring high in a number of other key categories.
Laurier placed in the top three in its category nationally for best overall, highest quality, most innovative, and overall reputation. Laurier was ranked No. 1 for highest quality among primarily undergraduate universities in Ontario, and placed in the top three in its category provincially for best overall, most innovative and leaders of tomorrow.
“Laurier continues to excel in all the key categories,” said Laurier President Max Blouw. “As the university prepares to enter its centennial year, the Maclean’s rankings confirm once again that Laurier has a well-deserved reputation for providing students with a high-quality education and an exceptional university experience.”
Laurier maintained its consistently high ranking in many categories and showed improvement in others. In social sciences and humanities grants, Laurier was ranked No. 1 in Ontario and No. 2 in Canada among primarily undergraduate universities. In medical/science grants, Laurier placed No. 2 in Ontario and No. 3 in Canada in its category.
Among student-satisfaction measures reported in the rankings issue, first-year and senior Laurier students who participated in the 2009 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) both rated Laurier above the NSSE average in terms of their entire educational experience.
Wilfrid Laurier University has been inspiring lives of leadership and purpose for nearly 100 years. The university has begun a year-long centennial celebration that will culminate with a 100th anniversary gala in fall 2011.
