Laurier Alumna Ashley Cumming ('07) hosts Masterclass on Fearless Performance
Alumna Ashley Cumming ('07) returned to Laurier on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 to host a masterclass entitled Fearless Performance. She walked current Faculty of Music students through the pressures one feels when performing and how to curve nerves and anxieties. Five lucky participants (pictured below) demonstrated some of Ashley's tips and tricks.
Ashley Cumming is an in-demand hornist hailing from Cambridge, Ontario. She is featured as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician worldwide, including principal horn with the Aradia Ensemble in Italy and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and section horn with the UANL Symphony Orchestra in Mexico, Richmond Indiana Symphony Orchestra, Danville Symphony Orchestra in Illinois and Orchestre de la Francophonie in Quebec. She was a recent recitalist at the International Women’s Brass Conference in Michigan, Midwest Horn Workshop in Wisconsin, and at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario. Ashley was also a concerto soloist with the Sooke Philharmonic in British Columbia and the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra in Ontario. Touring the United States with Bay Street Brassworks, Ashley performs concerts and educational programs with the award-winning quintet. She has performed in prestigious programs such as the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts Summer Masterclasses, and International Sommerakademie in Austria. Maintaining a busy teaching schedule, Ashley is the horn instructor at Marian University and former brass instructor at Vincennes University, while teaching privately throughout Indiana. Ashley is ABD at Indiana University for her Doctorate of Music and was the Brass Graduate Assistant during her studies.
