Laurier's Human Rights & Human Diversity Program Awarded "Students for Development" Grant
On April 8, 2011 Wilfrid Laurier University was awarded a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) grant through the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. The funding, in excess of $165,000 from 2011-2015, will allow the Human Rights & Human Diversity program to undertake two major initiatives that will be of interest to students.
1) It will facilitate the use of videoconferencing technology to offer courses that will be taken together by students at Laurier Brantford and at Ashesi University College in Accra, Ghana (http://www.ashesi.edu.gh/index.php). It is anticipated that Laurier and Ashesi students will work together on assignments via the internet.
2) The grant will also provide funding for a number of students to undertake three-month internships with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in Ghana with a focus on children, education and human rights.
