Office of Aboriginal Initiatives welcomes new staff
Wilfrid Laurier University's Office of Aboriginal Initiatives would like to formally welcome Laurie Minor to her new position as Administrative Assistant. Laurie’s role provides comprehensive support to the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives including:
- supporting the Aboriginal Education Council
- building lists and databases for all areas of the Aboriginal Initiatives Office,
- Supporting the Senior Advisor: Aboriginal Initiatives, Jean Becker and the staff at the Brantford and Waterloo Aboriginal Centres
Laurie Minor comes to the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives from the position of administrative assistant to the Dean in the Faculty of Education. For 10 years Laurie has worked in several departments including; Human Resources, Registrar's Office, MBA Office School of Business, Global Studies, Faculty of Arts, and the Dean's Office Faculty of Education, giving her a broad understanding of the university as a whole. She is an avid beader and moccasin-maker and has facilitated regalia making workshops for families in the tri-city area for the past 10 years.
Laurie is currently a part-time student pursuing her undergrad degree in Anthropology. Her research interests include socio-cultural anthropology, current Aboriginal issues, Aboriginal education in urban and rural settings, and ancient Indigenous cultures.
