Laurier eager to learn more about provincial changes to teacher education
Communications, Public Affairs & Marketing
Wilfrid Laurier University looks forward to learning more about the Ontario governmentís proposed changes to teacher education.
Laurier recognizes that a two-year program will align the Ontario system with teacher-education programs in other provinces and jurisdictions.
The provinceís proposed changes will have financial and program-delivery impacts, but the exact nature of these impacts is not yet clear.
Laurier is keen to obtain more details and looks forward to discussing the implications and the implementation process with the province once those are available.
Laurier currently offers a one-year consecutive Bachelor of Education program designed to prepare teachers for the Primary and Junior levels (Grades K-6) or Junior and Intermediate levels (Grades 4 to 10).
Laurier also has a separate partnership with Nipissing Universityís School of Education to offer a five-year concurrent education program through Laurierís Brantford campus. Graduates receive an Honours BA from Laurier and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing.
