While campus life has changed in many ways this year, Laurier remains committed to finding ways to foster a thriving community. Thousands of Laurier alumni stay connected to campus by volunteering in support of the Laurier community every year – and 2020 is no different. In October, Laurier Alumni hosted a sold-out virtual Student-Alumni Mentorship Reception.
The reception featured five Laurier alumni from different backgrounds and career paths: Beverly Kesse (BA ’13), Shazlin Rahman (BA ’12), Matthew Wright (BA ’14), Rebecca McCormick (BBA ’11) and Cody Roberts (BSc ’11). The success of the event demonstrates Laurier students’ keen interest in strengthening their professional skills and preparing for their futures.
Laurier Alumni will host another Student-Alumni Mentorship Reception on Feb. 10, 2021. All students are welcome to register for the session.
“A sense of community and connectedness is established at the inception of every Laurier experience and our alumni carry that with them long after they leave campus,” says Danielle Braun, alumni relations officer. “While events may look different this year, mentors will remain instrumental in guiding students to fulfilling careers and lives."
Alumni are committed to supporting Laurier students through virtual mentorship and networking opportunities. While networking events and in-person meetings can’t currently take place due to COVID-19, Laurier’s Ten Thousand Coffees community provides alumni and students virtual opportunities to build professional networks, engage in mentorship and explore industry opportunities.
Ten Thousand Coffees is a networking and mentorship platform where alumni, students and community members connect to share ideas and build impactful professional relationships. Whether looking to learn about different careers in an area of study or explore industry opportunities, connecting with Laurier alumni and students is crucial to career development. The platform has over 2,000 members, including more than 1,000 alumni ready to offer support and mentorship.
