Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University strongly condemns the racist language used by a Laurier student in a video that has been shared on social media.
The words are offensive and hurtful, and they do not reflect the values of diversity, inclusivity and respect that the university strives to encourage in the Laurier community.
The student has apologized on social media. However, the incident indicates the ongoing need to address bigotry and systemic racism.
The university will review this matter under Laurier’s Non-Academic Student Code of Conduct. As a learning-centred organization, we require personal accountability from members of our community while also seeking constructive outcomes for all involved through reflection, learning opportunities, and personal growth.
Laurier acknowledges the harm this kind of incident causes for black, Indigenous and people of colour, including our students, staff and faculty. This harm must be collectively mitigated through the fostering of a campus environment in which all members of the Laurier community feel safe, welcome and valued.
