Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Valentine’s Day is almost here. We asked Wilfrid Laurier University’s community of student Golden Hawks what they love about Laurier. Here’s what they had to say.

Shailyn Harris

Shailyn Harrisfirst-year student, Social and Environmental Justice program, Brantford campus

“I love Laurier because of the variety of opportunities to get involved and the closeness of the community.”

Grace Dick

third-year student, Business Administration program, Waterloo campus

“I love Laurier because there is always so much school spirit and everyone just seems happy to be here. I also love Laurier because it’s easy to make friends here as everyone is so welcoming and happy to help people.”

Abby Myles

Abby Mylesfourth-year student, Human Rights and Human Diversity program, Brantford campus

“I love Laurier because of the supportive community that I have encountered during my four years here. It has led me to academic, international and extra-curricular experiences where I can truly express myself.”

Carlos Khalil

Carlos Khalilthird-year student, Health Sciences program, Waterloo campus

“More than anything, Laurier is a loving community. From the faculty to the students and even the food services staff, everyone is looking to motivate and inspire one another. I have yet to meet a single negative person on campus and I doubt I ever will."

Joel Schellenberger

Joel Schellenbergersecond-year student, User Experience Design program, Brantford campus

“I love Laurier because it empowers me both in and out of the classroom with meaningful learning experiences that are helping to shape who I am and build the types of skills that define a great leader.”

Mei-Ning (Maisie) Cheng

Mei-Ning (Maisie) Chengsecond-year student, Business Technology Management program, Brantford campus

“I love Laurier because students of different identities have the right to speak and share their experiences and cultural celebrations. Students in need have access to support resources and enjoy an equitable learning environment. Laurier backs every single student to thrive in their own way.”

Magdalena Olszewski

Magdalena Olszewskimaster’s student, Integrative Biology program, Waterloo campus

“I love Laurier because it’s small in size but big in heart. I know and interact with the entire community, not just with students but with professors, lab coordinators and technicians. What we lack in size we gain in authenticity.”

Nathan Jeffery

"I love Laurier because it's where I thrive. The feeling of community among students, faculty and staff at this institution has encouraged me to strive for excellence. From my experiences in varsity athletics, co-operative education, research and academics, I have found that there is opportunity for everyone to succeed."

Ummesalama Potia and Amisha Yadav
