Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Print | PDFIt is with profound sorrow that Wilfrid Laurier University mourns the loss of Jenna Lorente, a second-year Kinesiology student who died earlier this week while at home for the exam study days.
The Dean of Students has connected with Jenna’s family to offer support and to extend heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the Laurier community. Flags have been lowered to half-mast across the university in recognition of this loss.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a eulogy at 4 p.m., at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, Jenna’s family is requesting donations for the Canadian Mental Health Association of Midland for suicide prevention.
Losing a student has a significant impact on our entire Laurier community. Support is being coordinated for students and others directly impacted. Additional assistance can be accessed from the following resources:
