Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Brantford – Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus will host its third annual Multicultural Gala on March 16 to showcase the culture, achievements, and successes of its international students. The gala will feature a multicultural dinner, musical performances, a cultural fashion show, door prizes and an awards ceremony. This year, in collaboration with International Villages, a longstanding community festival in Brantford, one musical performance will feature community members playing the guzheng, also known as the Chinese zither.

Presented by the Intercultural Students’ Association of Brantford (ISAB) and in partnership with Laurier International, the gala is an opportunity for international students to connect with Canadian students while also celebrating their culture. While the campus atmosphere is welcoming and accepting of diversity, the gala provides a chance for students to build their networks and be exposed to different traditions.

“Events such as these help everyone in our community to connect and learn from each other,” said Teeba Alsafar, international student advisor at Laurier International. “We are excited to have Laurier students, staff and faculty attend this event and show our international students that we are all here to support and celebrate their achievements.”

The awards ceremony will recognize international students who have shown academic achievement as well as community involvement. Awards will also distinguish students and faculty who have been involved in global issues on campus and have been allies to international students and their needs.

The gala will be hosted at the Market Square and Freedom House (1 Market Place) Friday, March 16. Doors open at 6 p.m. Attendees are asked to wear semi-formal attire with traditional attire welcome and encouraged.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the Laurier International office (DC138 - Dalhousie Centre). The event is open to all.
