WATERLOO – The 2016 U.S. presidential election is underway. The Republican National Convention runs July 18-21 in Cleveland Ohio. The Democratic National Convention runs July 25-28 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The following Laurier experts are available to comment on the election:

Barry Kay, associate professor in Laurier’s Department of Political Science, is an expert on American politics. Kay is available to comment on a variety of topics surrounding the 2016 American election. Contact information: (Home) 519-886-5668; (Weekends) 416-324-8432. 


Dana E. Weiner, associate professor in Laurier’s Department of History, is an expert on race and rights in 19th century United States. Weiner specializes in African American rights and activism in the Midwest and west, as well as the anti-slavery movement. Contact information: dweiner@wlu.ca.

Laura Mae Lindo, director of Laurier’s Diversity and Equity Office and instructor in Laurier’s Faculty of Arts, is an expert on racial justice, racial rhetoric, rising tensions with state violence (e.g. police and security) and black communities and the impact of racial rhetoric in the U.S. election on Canadian communities of colour.
