WATERLOO – Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on Feb. 14.
There are several Laurier experts available to comment on love, relationships and Valentine’s Day:
Margaret E. Toye, associate professor in Laurier’s Women and Gender Studies Program, is an expert on feminist theories of love. Toye is also a co-founder of Feminist Love Studies, an international organization that researches love from a feminist perspective and plays a crucial role in the formation of the scholarly field of Feminist Love Studies. Tristan Long, associate professor in Laurier’s Department of Biology, is an evolutionary geneticist and behavioural ecologist. Long’s research focuses on sexual selection – the differences in individual fitness resulting from non-random mating. His studies examine male-to-male competition for the opportunity to court/mate with females, why females don't always prefer the same males, and the costs and benefit that arise from selective/non-random/multiple mating.
