Biography

Dr. Sofy Carayannopoulos is an Associate professor at the School of Business and Economics, at Wilfrid Laurier University. She currently teaches introductory business strategy to classes of over 200 undergraduate students. She holds an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from Schulich School of Business at York University, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and Economics and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Throughout her career she has run and engaged in multiple teaching development workshops, addressing issues such as technological aids and writing cases. Her award-winning cases have been published and distributed by the Laurier Institute and Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and The Case Research Journal. Dr. Carayannopoulos’ research has been presented at numerous conferences, including the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Conference. In addition, her research has been published in the International Journal of Knowledge, Culture and Change Management and Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and Research Policy. She also contributes to a number of Professional and University Organizations including the Business Curriculum Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and the NeXt Board of Associates. NeXt is a committee that aspires to increase entrepreneurial awareness across the region of waterloo, and provides local entrepreneurs with useful knowledge and research. She was invited to this committee because of the strong overlap between her research and teaching interests with the activities of NeXt. Dr. Carayannopoulos hopes her involvement in NeXt will help promote the activities of NeXt to non-Laurier constituents, expand NeXt’s activities, and increase research available to local entrepreneurs.
